U.S. presidential candidates begin accepting Bitcoin donations.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nephew of the 35th President of the United States, began accepting donations in bitcoin for his campaign.

During the Bitcoin 2023 conference he described cryptocurrency as “a symbol of democracy and freedom.” For sending donations, the candidate chose the micro-payments network Lightning Network.

Following Kennedy, another candidate announced cryptocurrency donations — Vivek Ramaswamy.

“Let’s make the 2024 elections a referendum on fiat currency,” he said during the same conference.

Ramaswamy showed on stage a QR code that, when scanned, redirected to a site offering various payment options, including bitcoin and satoshi. For donations, the candidate chose the BitPay service.

Voters may contribute up to $6,600 in cryptocurrency donations for both candidates.

Robert Kennedy has repeatedly spoken in support of digital assets. In April he stated that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are an alternative to the traditional financial system.

In his view, the technology will lay the path to salvation for society, and the current financial bubble will inevitably burst. Kennedy also voiced concerns about the monetary policy of the U.S. Federal Reserve and its relations with financial institutions.

In May, the nephew of the 35th U.S. president criticized the SEC and the FDIC for a ‘war on cryptocurrencies’ that led to a banking crisis in the country.
