UK regulator eyes blockchain-analytics tools

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) объявило тендер among firms specialising in blockchain analytics. The contract is worth £500,000 ($672,000).

“The FCA is seeking an external firm to provide access to a platform that supports reliable and efficient analysis of cryptocurrency blockchain data,” the application states.

The regulator added about the need to strengthen consumer protection for those investing in cryptocurrencies. At the same time he urged not to go to extremes.

The FCA says data monitoring and blockchain analytics are important tools for regulation and for ensuring compliance with anti-money-laundering laws.

In 2020 the FCA introduced a temporary registration regime for cryptocurrency companies. Later the agency extended the regime until 31 March 2022 for the duration of the ‘thorough assessment’.

In September Mastercard announced the acquisition of CipherTrace, which specialises in tracking suspicious activity on blockchains across more than 900 cryptocurrencies.
