Ukraine joins the European Blockchain Partnership as an observer

Ukraine получила статус observer in the framework of the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP). The country’s representative became the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT development, Alexander Bornyakov.

It is expected that Ukraine’s accession will ease the integration of the country’s digital economy with the EU.

Bornyakov said this will bolster work on deploying blockchain in state registries and services, and will help foster a “highly efficient regulatory environment” for the virtual assets market.

With the initiative for Ukraine’s accession to the EBP put forward by Konstantin Yarmolenko, the CEO of the public association “Virtual Assets of Ukraine”, and Aleksey Zhmerenetsky, head of the inter-factional group of deputies Blockchain4Ukraine.

They addressed representatives of EU institutional bodies, including the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with a request to include Ukraine among full members of the EBP. The head of the European Commission, in a reply letter, confirmed the prospect of Ukraine’s accession to the partnership as an observer.

Earlier, the union “Virtual Assets of Ukraine” and the Blockchain4Ukraine association appealed to EU representatives on the creation of a single infrastructure for blockchain services.
