The State Special Communications Service of Ukraine plans to provide all citizens with the ability to use Starlink satellite internet after the certification of the new technology. This was stated in a press release by the agency.
Today, more than 10,000 Starlink terminals are used to transmit intelligence information between Ukraine and its Western partners, and to safeguard critical infrastructure.
“Mass usage of Starlink satellite internet could affect the operation of Ukrainian military radio-relay equipment. Therefore access to the mass consumer network via terminals is currently restricted,” the State Special Communications Service added.
Exact timelines for a full Starlink rollout in Ukraine are not being announced. The issues of certification and opening a representative office are personally overseen by the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation asked Elon Musk for access to Starlink technology and within a week received the first 500 stations with free local firmware.
