Ukraine’s deputy defence minister declares 53 BTC

The Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yuliy Gere declared holdings in Bitcoin, currently valued at $2.4 million.

The official bought 53 BTC in January 2011 for $421 at the time of the transaction.

Moreover, Gere said that he does not own any property in his name. He is registered at a Kyiv apartment owned by Lena Torgovitskaya. His wife and daughter own two apartments in Kryvyi Rih.

The Gere family owns three cars, but none are registered to the official himself. Yuliy Gere drives a Skoda Superb, owned by his father.

The only valuable asset held by Yuliy Gere is a Ulysse Nardin watch, bought in 2010.

The Gere couple also owns just over $100,000, 1.2 million hryvnias and €50,000 in savings.

Earlier, ForkLog reported that in 2020 Ukrainian officials indicated in total 46,351 BTC. Later, one of the deputies called the information that he possessed 18,000 BTC erroneous.

In April, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed in the first reading a bill that establishes criminal liability for concealing cryptocurrencies worth more than $40,500.
