Ukrainian minister aims to be paid in e-hryvnia

Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, plans to become one of the first users of the electronic hryvnia. At the World Economic Forum, he заявил that he intends to receive his salary in it.

Fedorov said that he had already seen a pilot of the electronic hryvnia. He added that the ministry is cooperating on this issue with Stellar and with one of the private banks.

It appears to refer to Tascombank, which recently published testing results for the issuance of electronic money on the Stellar network.

According to the minister, the National Bank of Ukraine is preparing ‘large-scale pilots’ using the electronic hryvnia in 2024.

“I plan to become the first tester of the electronic hryvnia and start receiving a salary in it,” said the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Fedorov added that authorities are actively working on the legalisation of the cryptocurrency market in Ukraine:

“We are not waiting for the end of the war. We are doing the digital transformation of the state right now.”
