Ukrainian MP says his cold wallet containing 42 BTC was stolen

A Ukrainian MP from the Servant of the People faction, Dmitry Gurin, said that his cold wallet with bitcoins had been stolen. This, according to the conclusion of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAZK), is reported by “Slovo i Delo”.

In the 2020 declaration, the deputy reported that 42 BTC belonged to his wife, worth more than 22.5 million hryvnias (over $843,000 at the time of writing). However, he did not provide documents substantiating this information.

During the investigations, Gurin said that on 21 April 2021 his car — in which the cold wallet containing the cryptocurrency was located — was stolen.

As evidence, he provided a document from the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. The theft case is being investigated by Kyiv police.

At the time of writing, 42 BTC were worth more than $2 million.

In 2020 declarations, Ukrainian officials reported in total more than 46,000 BTC.

In April, NAZK stated that it would review these data. In September, the agency said that the head of the State Regulatory Service of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kucher, could not confirm ownership of the declared 77 BTC.
