Unknown attackers hacked Aptos’ Twitter to promote a fake airdrop

On 6 July, unknown attackers hacked Aptos’s Twitter account and posted links to a fake project site, inviting people to participate in a counterfeit APT token airdrop.

The profile of Aptos CEO Mohammad Shaikh was also hacked, according to the developers. They promised to provide further information as the situation develops.

The price of APT reacted to the news with a drop. According to CoinGecko, at the time of writing the asset was trading around $7.17, down 4.7% over 24 hours.

On 22 March an hacker hacked Circle’s top executive Dante Disparte’s Twitter account to promote the scam.

On 26 May, attackers gained control of the Twitter account of Arthur Madrid, CEO metaverse The Sandbox.

In April, Aptos’ developers launched the delegated staking function.

In the same month, it emerged that Aptos will allocate $20 million to Web3 artists.
