Unknown individual steals cryptocurrency on Telegram, impersonating Kuna founder

The founder of the Ukrainian exchange Kuna, Mikhail Chobanian, said that scammers, using his name, lure cryptocurrency through secret Telegram chats. One of the victims has already sent to the attackers’ wallet $2,500.

The unknown individual in the message asks the victim to transfer a certain amount in dollars to a Bitcoin wallet and to send him the transaction link.

“I never ask anyone for money. If you are asked for money, always demand video proof,” wrote Mikhail Chobanian in his Telegram channel.

He warned that scammers mislead victims by subtly altering the original nickname. They can also operate through real accounts that have been compromised.

As of writing, one of the attackers’ addresses has received 0.011 BTC (more than $670). The funds have already been withdrawn from the wallet.

ForkLog has requested comments from Mikhail Chobanian but did not receive a prompt response.

Earlier, ForkLog reported that criminals began using users’ personal data collected by Telegram bots for blackmail and extortion.
