Unknown miner moves bitcoins mined in 2010 for the first time — the seventh such transaction

On January 10, an unknown miner moved 1,000 BTC that had lain dormant since 2010. This is already the seventh such transaction in recent times, according to the Telegram channel Goldfoundinshit.

Data: BTCParser.

According to the channel, the sender addresses of all seven transactions are in Coinbase’s cluster. He concluded this after analyzing the structure of the outputs using the blockchain-analytics tool OXT.

«Coinbase probably bought private keys from an early miner. It is the keys, because the funds in the blockchain had not moved before», BTCParser stressed.

In December 2020, Glassnode reported that 1.78 million BTC at miner addresses had not moved for more than 10 years. According to the researchers, another 4-5 million BTC are inaccessible due to lost private keys or the death of owners.

On January 3, the miner moved the sixth batch of ten-year-old 1,000 BTC. On December 28, the community noticed the fifth in a series of similar transactions in recent times.

A similar movement of early 1,000 BTC split into 10 coins recorded in October. At the start of this month, an unknown user moved 50 BTC that had lain unmoved since 2010.

A similar episode occurred in July.

In May, 50 bitcoins, awarded for the block mined on February 9, 2009, moved. The network of the first cryptocurrency had been operating for only one month at that time. One of the miners at the time was the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. Many users speculated that he might have owned the coins, but analysis of Patoshi patterns did not confirm the hypothesis.

In 2020, the number of addresses with balances above 1,000 BTC significantly increased.
