US baseball club begins accepting Bitcoin for payments

The California baseball team the Oakland Athletics added the option to pay for private suites with Bitcoin.

Until April 1, fans can purchase a pass to a six-seat suite for the 2021 home games. A total of 100 packages are available for the new season.

Each package costs $64,800 or 1 BTC. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading around $56,000, so buyers could receive a discount by paying in cryptocurrency.

The club president Dave Kaval told Sportico that the management pursued the step due to the growing popularity of cryptocurrency in California. He also cited the near parity between the asset and the season package as another reason.

“This is also a kind of test to determine whether we want to pursue similar things in other aspects of our business,” Kaval noted.

In March, billionaire Mark Cuban’s NBA Dallas Mavericks began to accept cryptocurrency Dogecoin for tickets, services and merchandise.
