Listing the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash into the sanctions list has no precedent and threatens privacy and innovation. In an interview CoinDesk said US Representative Tom Emmer.

“This is an unprecedented shift in sanctions policy. OFAC’s priority is protecting national security. Congress may approach the agency to confirm the position that sanctioned addresses are controlled by people, not by code. According to Emmer, sanctions against Tornado Cash sparked internal debates about the industry\’s oversight. He told colleagues that he doubted the quality of work performed by these agencies.
The congressman again criticized the policy SEC. He noted that the Commission acts as a \”coercive organ\”.
Emmer predicted no changes to cryptocurrency legislation in the remaining 28 days of this year\’s session. He described regulatory clarity as \”highly likely\” to emerge later.
Earlier, Kraken CEO Jess Powell described the sanctions against Tornado Cash as \”unconstitutional\”.
Earlier, members of the decentralized autonomous organization Tornado DAO urged the community to hire a team of lawyers to challenge the blocking of the service.
Later, Coin Center, a crypto-industry-focused rights organization, said it intends to challenge the sanctions imposed by the United States.
