US hockey club to begin accepting Bitcoin and Dogecoin payments

From the 2021/2022 season, the NHL’s San Jose Sharks will begin selling season tickets for matches in cryptocurrency. This was announced by club president Jonathan Becher.

The initiative is being run by the Sharks Sports & Entertainment parent company in partnership with the cryptocurrency payments service BitPay.

The team will accept Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Wrapped Bitcoin, Dogecoin, as well as stablecoins GUSD, BUSD, DAI, PAX and USDC.

According to Becher, users will be able to pay for season tickets, corporate sponsorships, and the rental of luxury suites at the SAP Center in San Jose.

“In the future, we will consider accepting cryptocurrency as payment for individual game tickets, food and beverages, and official merchandise,” he added.

Earlier reports indicated that the NBA’s Sacramento Kings would offer the team and staff the option to be paid in bitcoins.

Earlier Dynamo Kyiv announced regular NFT sales as match tickets. Fans will be able to purchase non-fungible tokens on the Binance NFT marketplace as early as late June 2021.
