US lawmakers to receive $50 in bitcoin each

The American advocacy group the Chamber of Digital Commerce has launched the Crypto for Congress initiative, under which it will send $50 in bitcoin to the campaign committees of members of Congress.

The educational initiative is aimed at increasing the awareness of congressmen about how blockchain and digital assets work. In addition to bitcoin they will have the opportunity to take online training about cryptocurrencies.

“One of the biggest problems we’ve always faced is that people simply don’t understand what we’re talking about,” said CoinDesk’s president of the Chamber of Digital Commerce, Perianne Boring.

Members of Congress may accept the donation, pass it to a charity that accepts bitcoin, or decline it.

All bitcoins directed to members under the initiative were mined by American companies Core Scientific and Luxor.

Earlier, the Chamber of Digital Commerce lobbied for a crypto-friendly bill in North Carolina.

It also helped establish a blockchain center in Washington intended for entrepreneurs and public-sector officials seeking more information about the technology and the products built on it.
