US to sell 6.79 BTC at second auction in a month

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced another cryptocurrency sale auction. Bids will open on March 29 and run for 48 hours, the agency said on the site.

Authorities put up ten lots with a total of 6.79 BTC (~$355,700 at the time of writing). The GSA did not specify where the digital gold came from.

“Our first steps into the cryptocurrency market were among the hottest auctions of 2021, but in fact it was only a pilot launch […] We expect these trades will generate even greater interest among cryptocurrency investors,” said the agency’s regional commissioner, Thomas Meyron.

Earlier the GSA announced the sale of 0.7501 BTC. The auction drew 31 bids, and the winner paid for the lot $53,104 — roughly $9,000 above the market price at the time.

Earlier in March 2021, French authorities sold 0.11 BTC for €26,800 (~$31,900), which exceeded the market price fivefold.
