User Pays $59,204 in Bitcoin Transaction Fees by Mistake

An unidentified user inadvertently paid approximately 0.75 BTC (~$59,204) in fees while attempting to replace an already sent but unconfirmed transaction with a new one at a higher value.

A Bitcoin user accidentally paid around 0.75 BTC (approximately $60,000) in transaction fees due to a mistake during a replace-by-fee (RBF) transaction.

Initially, the user sent a transaction with a standard fee and then attempted to increase it for faster processing through two consecutive RBF attempts.

In the final operation, the user mistakenly added an additional UTXO with nearly 0.75 BTC to cover the extra fee but forgot to update the change output.

For comparison, the average fee on the Bitcoin network at the time of writing is $1.87, according to Blockchair.

In February, this parameter for the Ethereum blockchain fell to 2020 levels.
