On December 9, the Solana network appears to have been hit by a DDoS attack, according to user reports. The developers did not comment on the information.
The media later cited a tweet from the NFT-platform Blockasset, which was subsequently deleted, that discussed the distribution of its native token BLOCK:
«We know that distributing tokens takes a long time. Solana is overwhelmed by DDoS attacks, which clogged the network, causing delays».
The founder of the Solend lending platform confirmed a slowdown in transaction processing, noting that it remains about 30 times higher than Ethereum.
The Verbit CEO Roy Murphy said there was a global outage of Solana; however, according to data, the network did not stop operating.
«The Solana blockchain was subjected to a DDoS attack and overload. The network is not working worldwide. Bitcoin solves this problem», — wrote him.
The Solana Foundation, the organization behind the project, publicly did not confirm the attacks.
In the last 24 hours, the price of the Solana token (SOL) has fallen by 7.5% (CoinGecko). At the time of writing, this is the largest decline among the top-cap cryptocurrencies, though all are in the red.
Back on September 14, 2021, the Solana network experienced an outage of on-chain activity. New blocks did not emerge for more than 16 hours, and to resume operation the blockchain required a restart. The developers attributed it to a DDoS attack.
