Uzbek Student Arrested for Selling Notcoin
The Chilanzar District Criminal Court in Tashkent has sentenced a 24-year-old student for selling the NOT token from the Web3 gaming project Notcoin, according to local media.
Case materials reveal that on June 1, police received a complaint regarding the young man’s illegal activities with crypto assets.
During the hearing, the defendant stated that he had collected “crypto assets on Telegram” and sold Notcoin for 800,000 soms (~$62.41). He requested leniency from the court, claiming ignorance of the illegality of his actions. The student also noted that he is the sole breadwinner for his family.
The court sentenced him to 10 days of administrative arrest and ordered the destruction of the Galaxy A30 phone and the bank card used in the transactions.
Since January 2024, Uzbekistan has implemented fines and penalties for illegal cryptocurrency operations.
The country also mandates registration for cryptocurrency service providers. Since August 2022, authorities have been blocking unlicensed trading platforms.
