The Simón Bolívar International Airport at Maiquetía in Venezuela will add the ability to pay for tickets and other services using Bitcoin, DASH and the national digital currency El Petro. This was reported by the local publication ElSiglo.
The airport’s director, Freddy Borges, said that the crypto-payment process would be arranged in line with the requirements of the local regulator. To this end, the company will adapt its payment system.
According to Borges, the airport intends to offer innovative technologies and convenient payment methods not only to local passengers but also to foreign tourists.
In August, the Venezuelan airline Turpial Airlines предоставила the option to pay for tickets in Bitcoin.
In January 2018, Brisbane Airport in Australia first announced support for cryptocurrencies.
Recall that in November 2020, the Venezuelan Pizza Hut began to accept Bitcoin as payment. In April 2021, the same added by the country’s largest aviation training centre, Caracas Air, to offer the option.
In March 2021, the Venezuelan Bank provided citizens the ability to buy stablecoins. In May, President Nicolas Maduro ordered social payments in El Petro.
