Venezuela’s Patria payment platform to add support for Bitcoin and Litecoin
The authorities in Venezuela announced an update to the national payment platform Patria. One of the key changes is the support for Bitcoin and Litecoin wallets, it says in a statement.
The new features will appear after the addition of the corresponding trading pairs for exchange into the national cryptocurrency. A fee will be charged for all transactions using Bitcoin, Litecoin or El Petro.
During the testing phase, some features will be rolled out to a limited number of users. The authorities hope this will enable Venezuelans to officially receive transfers in digital assets.
“The Patria platform will gradually connect these and other services,” say the developers.
Earlier, in September, President Nicolás Maduro presented a bill expanding the use of El Petro and other cryptocurrencies in domestic and foreign trade. With it, the Venezuelan authorities hoped to circumvent U.S. sanctions.
