Buterin shared his experience interacting with the OpenAI-developed ChatGPT chatbot. Among the various applications, the AI system can be used to locate specific code to help in building applications.
According to Buterin, ChatGPT made several mistakes when he asked the chatbot to provide concrete code snippets.
“At the moment, AI is far from replacing human programmers,” he said.
Buterin added that, in many cases the chatbot can excel and write fairly good code, particularly for routine tasks.
While ChatGPT can be an effective means for developers to find answers, it can give unhelpful advice. Developers should use the tool with caution, said the Ethereum co-founder.
“Nevertheless, it introduced me to coding templates I hadn’t seen before, and it wrote a basic converter faster than I would have done it myself,” said Buterin.
Earlier, Stack Overflow’s developer platform banned users from posting code fragments generated by ChatGPT.
In December, OpenAI released the ChatGPT chatbot, which can answer questions, admit mistakes, argue and decline inappropriate requests.
In the same month, Buterin named five exciting vectors for Ethereum development.
