Vitalik Buterin discussed blockchain and cryptocurrencies with the former president of Argentina

The former president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, met with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

According to Macri, the topic of their conversation was the role of crypto and the possibilities blockchain offers to governments. He called Ethereum one of the most innovative decentralized technologies of our century.

According to local media, on December 17 Buterin quietly arrived in the country and unexpectedly appeared at a party hosted by The Graph to mark the anniversary of the mainnet launch.

“He came to eat pizza and talk about the ecosystem. He looked like a rock star — everyone wanted to take photos with him. He played table tennis, socialised. I think he enjoyed it,” said Loren Fabris of The Graph.

According to him, Buterin came to Argentina to get a closer look at local projects and the blockchain ecosystem.

The next day he took part in a luncheon where he also met Macri. Other unicorn-startup representatives at the event included MercadoLibre cofounder Ernán Kazah, Globant cofounder Gilbert Englebien and entrepreneur Santiago Siri.

During the The Graph gathering, Buterin spoke positively about the blockchain project Proof-of-Humanity — a system of identity for accessing a basic income.

Back in August, the incumbent president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández allowed that the legalisation of Bitcoin could help the country curb inflation.
