Vitalik Buterin discusses account abstraction implementation on Ethereum
Account abstraction is viewed as a catalyst that could attract a billion users to the Ethereum network, but there are several hurdles to implementing the feature, said Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
According to the developer, the integration will allow fees to be paid not only in ETH but also in other coins that users transfer.
Moreover, the extension will allow decentralized applications to ‘sponsor’ transactions for their users, Buterin added.
The Ethereum co-founder also spoke about another development — ‘signature abstraction’. Thanks to the technology, rollup developers will be able to compile signatures, which will significantly reduce gas costs.
Despite all the advantages, integrating account abstraction will require overcoming many difficulties, Buterin notes. First, a corresponding Ethereum Improvement Proposal must be developed and adopted. EIP.
After that, all user accounts would have to be turned into smart contracts, with the function operating reliably in layer-2 networks. Buterin also stressed that there will be a problem integrating biometric technologies and wallets.
Earlier, the Ethereum team activated the ERC-4337 standard, which implements the concept of account abstraction.
In June, Buterin published a roadmap, in which he outlined the main directions for the blockchain’s sustainable development—L2 scaling, stronger wallet security, and data privacy.
