Vitalik Buterin Highlights the Benefits of Solo Staking in Ethereum
Solo staking in Ethereum is crucial for the security and decentralisation of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, according to its co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, as reported by Cointelegraph.
According to the expert, individual stakers form an uncoordinated and diverse group, reducing reliance on CEX. Even a small proportion of them can add an important decentralised layer of protection for Ethereum.
Buterin also examined the role of solo stakers in 51% attack scenarios. He noted that the key difference lies in the extent of network control by the attacker: 50-56% or 57%+. In the latter case, block finalisation becomes possible, which could lead to forks, he pointed out.
To complicate such attacks, the Ethereum co-founder suggested the community raise the required block confirmation threshold from 2/3 to 3/4 or more of the coins staked.
Earlier, Buterin announced a change in approach to mentioning L2 solutions. Starting next year, he will publicly discuss only projects at the “stage 1+” level.
Back in September, the Ethereum co-founder stated that he does not intend to invest in layer-two networks or other projects.
