“Last year CryptoRelief, led by Sandeep Naival, allocated $100 million to COVID research projects I wanted to fund. Sandeep and I discussed and agreed that these and other initiatives are highly effective and in need of grants,” Buterin said.
The developer added that the COVID-19 pandemic and other diseases require “a global solution that combines cutting-edge scientific innovations and practical applications worldwide.”
According to Buterin, $10 million of the new funding will come from him personally.
Crypto Relief transferred $90 million into USDC to a multisig wallet controlled by Vitalik Buterin’s team.

Naival founded Covid Relief in April 2021. According to the organization’s website, with Buterin they raised more than $58 million in grants to fight the pandemic. Now the fund has more than $20 million in the bank.
In April 2021, Vitalik Buterin donated 100 ETH and 100 MKR totaling over $600,000 to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier, Shiba Inu developers sent to the Ethereum co-founder’s wallet half of the token supply, making him the largest holder of the meme cryptocurrency.
Later, Buterin burned 410 trillion SHIB or 90% of his holdings, and pledged to direct 10% (70 trillion SHIB) to charity. In the same month he transferred over 50 trillion SHIB (over $1 billion at the time) to the COVID-19 relief fund in India.
