The developer sent the funds to a multi-signature wallet. These assets were received on August 5 from another address affiliated with him, Vb 3.
Analysts speculated that the 3,000 ETH might be intended for charity. In October 2023, Buterin stated that any transfers from his wallet are “almost always some kind of donation.”
At the time of writing, the vitalik.eth address holds Ethereum worth approximately $529,000. The value of other assets at the address exceeds $496,000.
Previously, the Ethereum co-founder deposited 600 ETH, valued at about $1 million at the time, to the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. A day before the transfer, Buterin closed a position of 251,000 RAI on the MakerDAO platform and withdrew 1,000 ETH (approximately $1.67 million).
In March 2023, he exchanged coins received through airdrops for ETH, amounting to about $700,000, causing the price of some of them to plummet.
In September, Buterin sold MakerDAO tokens worth $580,000 after the project’s head, Rune Christensen, proposed launching the protocol on Solana.
In August 2024, the developer disposed of 17 billion Neiro, which the project team had sent him as part of an airdrop. He earned about $103,000 from the transaction.
