Volaris begins accepting Bitcoin payments in El Salvador

President Nayib Bukele announced that the local airline Volaris El Salvador has begun accepting payment in the first cryptocurrency.

Volaris El Salvador — the subsidiary of the Mexican budget airline Volaris. The low-cost carrier confirmed the information to The Block.

“We have a Salvadoran low-cost airline that accepts Bitcoin,” wrote Bukele.

The law entering into force in early September to legalize digital gold in El Salvador obliges local companies to accept the first cryptocurrency as payment when the relevant technology is available.

In January 2018, Brisbane Airport in Australia became the first in the world to announce support for cryptocurrencies.

In October 2021, Maiquetía Simón Bolívar International Airport in Venezuela announced that it would accept payments in Bitcoin and other digital assets.
