Film studio Warner Bros. has launched Web3-initiative WB Movieverse, under which it opened auctions for non-fungible tokens (NFT) for the film “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.”

The project was created in partnership with blockchain company Eluvio, which in August 2021 closed a Series A funding round of for $100 million.

The auction began at 19:00 (MSK/Kyiv) 21 October. Warner Bros. offered 999 ultra-rare tokens at $100 and 10 000 NFTs at $30. The latter may be of common, uncommon and rare quality.

As of writing, 6,350 NFTs at $30 remained for sale. All ultra-rare tokens have sold out.

Each NFT includes the director’s cut of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 4K, additional photos and video material from the shoot, interactive galleries and other bonuses.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment vice president Jessica Shell told Variety that the studio will consider further NFT projects for The Lord of the Rings franchise after evaluating the success of the first initiative.

In 2021, the social media platform Nifty’s released NFTs for the films «The Matrix Resurrections» and «Space Jam: A New Legacy» in collaboration with Warner Bros.

Earlier, a collection of 1,000 NFTs of Hollywood actor Anthony Hopkins on the OpenSea marketplace sold out in under 10 minutes.
