Warren Buffett compared AI to an atomic bomb

The billionaire investor Warren Buffett likened artificial intelligence to the creation of an atomic bomb and voiced concern about the rapid pace of technological development. He spoke about it at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting, as reported by Business Insider.

Buffett remained sceptical about AI’s ability to replace people. However, the billionaire acknowledged the technology’s wide potential, despite some limitations.

“It can do anything. And when something can do anything, I’m a little worried,” Buffett said.

“AI can change everything in the world, except how people think and behave, and that is a big step forward.”

Buffett has long been a staunch opponent of nuclear weapons. For decades he has repeatedly warned of their dangers and said he would give all his money to lower the odds of an attack.

Earlier Buffett doubted Bitcoin’s ability to become a global reserve currency.

Earlier in May, the ‘godfather of AI’, Geoffrey Hinton left Google and warned about the dangers of AI.

In March, more than a thousand industry experts urged to pause all development of large language models for six months.

Bill Gates criticised proponents of a pause. In his view, it will not help reduce AI risks.
