WEX case: Dmitry 'Moryachka' Khavchenko detained before hearing; Bilyuchenko handed a 3.5-year sentence

On 20 September, before the start of another hearing in the case of misappropriation of assets of the WEX cryptocurrency exchange at Moscow’s Meshchansky Court, police detained the former owner of the platform Dmitry ‘Moryachka’ Khavchenko. This was reported by journalist Irek Murtazin in his Telegram channel.

According to available information, “Moryachka” is wanted in connection with weapons possession. He was brought to court in handcuffs.

“To be honest, I am in shock. My conscience is clear — I am not connected to any weapons or ammunition that I am accused of. The situation is completely unclear: I had no searches, I was not summoned anywhere as a witness,” Khavchenko said.

Nevertheless, he will participate in the hearing as the injured party.

ForkLog previously reported that ‘Moryachka’ was excluded from the list of victims in the case of misappropriation of assets of the WEX cryptocurrency exchange. In addition, he is no longer listed as the owner of the trading platform. According to extracts from the Singapore registry, the company was transferred to a certain Igor Pravdin.

Since the authenticity of the documents has not yet been established, Khavchenko continues to represent the injured party.

The prosecution requested for the \”red admin\” Alexey Bilyuchenko (Ivanov), who is charged with misappropriation of WEX assets, 4.5 years of general regime imprisonment and a fine of 1 million rubles.

The hearing was adjourned.

The court sentenced Bilyuchenko to 3.5 years in prison and a fine of 500 000 rubles.

As investigators note, in October 2018 Bilyuchenko blocked access to the accounts and wallets controlled by World Exchange Services Pte. Ltd., the company behind the platform. He also cut off access of the exchange’s owners and users to funds and crypto assets worth 3.1 billion rubles.

During the pre-trial investigation, Bilyuchenko fully complied with the terms of the pre-trial cooperation agreement and reimbursed the damage, providing details of his bank accounts.
