White House Prioritises AI Over Bitcoin

The US administration has released a new national security strategy. The document makes no direct mention of cryptocurrencies or blockchain, despite the industry’s integration into the global economy and past statements by President Donald Trump.

Priority areas are identified as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum computing. Washington aims to secure global leadership and set standards in these fields.

An indirect reference to the sector is found only in the section on financial dominance. Authorities plan to use “leadership in digital finance and innovation” to maintain market liquidity and security.

Particular attention is given to protecting the financial system. Washington plans to “aggressively defend the dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency and use capital markets as a lever of influence.”

The main goal is stated as “strengthening American power through economic independence, military superiority, and robust sovereignty protection.”

The US and Cryptocurrencies

The absence of mentions of the crypto industry in the strategy contradicts Trump’s recent rhetoric. Previously, he stated that the US should take a leading position in this area.

In May, CIA Deputy Director Michael Ellis also described digital currencies as a “zone of technological competition.”

Meanwhile, this year the administration has pursued a friendly policy towards digital assets:

Back in November, Trump issued an order launching new federal research and development programs in the field of artificial intelligence.
