Backed by TV personality Kevin O’Leary, the DeFi platform WonderFi Technologies has agreed to acquire the Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Coinberry, according to a press release.
The deal is valued at about $30.3 million. The parties plan to close it in the second quarter of 2022.
WonderFi’s aim is to bolster its presence in Canada. Previously the project acquired the local trading platform Bitbuy — now the team is expanding this brand in Australia and plans to expand into the United States by the end of the year.
WonderFi’s strategic investor Kevin O’Leary described the acquisitions as “extremely important.” In his view, this signals the platform’s forward-looking plans.
In August 2021, Coinberry was among the regulated crypto exchanges barred from dealing with Tether’s USDT.
