Worldcoin hits daily registration record in Argentina

Sam Altman’s Worldcoin recorded a record number of registrations in Argentina — 9,500 people completed verification in a day.

Biometric-scanning spheres were placed in four cities across the country, including Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Córdoba and Mendoza.

“In Argentina, one user is registered every nine seconds,” according to the press release.

Worldcoin announced the official launch on July 24. The project’s main product—the World ID protocol—is based on zero-knowledge proofs. It is a mobile tool that allows people to verify their identity using either a retinal scan or a phone number.

The platform continues to post record metrics even amid regulatory challenges. Earlier, Argentina’s Agency for Access to Public Information initiated an investigation into the Altman project. The agency is concerned about the security measures taken in protecting users’ privacy.

Worldcoin’s activity has also attracted the attention of regulators in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Kenya.

As reported, Europe head Ricardo Masiera stated that the World ID identification system would become available to large organisations and world governments.
