Worldcoin Technology to Enhance Malaysia’s Digital Infrastructure

MIMOS Berhad has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Worldcoin Foundation, Tools for Humanity (TFH), and e-government service provider MyEG.

The agreement aims to integrate the Worldcoin protocol and TFH technologies into Malaysia’s digital infrastructure. As part of the partnership, individuals will gain access to personal identity verifications (iris scanning).

“The agreement with the Malaysian government follows recent Worldcoin launches in Europe and Latin America. To date, 6,464,670 people worldwide have been identified using Worldcoin,” the release states.

TFH will provide technical expertise and support for both devices and the application. MyEG will focus on the integration and deployment of equipment.

The collaboration may also extend to joint production of orbs.

In December 2023, Worldcoin disabled biometric verification via orbs for users in India, Brazil, and France.

Subsequently, the project attracted the interest of authorities in the UK, France, Germany, and Argentina.

Portugal and Spain ordered the halt of personal data collection.

In June 2024, the Kenyan prosecutor’s office ceased its investigation into the company. The latter received permission for iris scanning and other operations in the country.

In July, TFH appointed four high-ranking former employees from Apple, Google, Meta, Tesla, and X to leadership positions.
