This is stated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1713445\/000162828024006294\/reddits-1q423.htm\">annual report<\/a> to the <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The organization indicated that it may continue this practice.<\/p>\n<p>The investments did not exceed the threshold for disclosure in the document.<\/p>\n<p>The company also used ETH and MATIC as payment for certain virtual goods.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Our investment policy requires board approval for any investments in cryptocurrencies,&#8221;<\/em> the report states.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reddit explained that it limited its investments to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and &#8220;any other cryptocurrency&#8221; that regulators like the SEC and <span data-descr=\"U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CFTC<\/span> would not consider as a security.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the social network implemented initiatives such as avatars on Polygon and Community Points.<\/p>\n<p>The latter was launched in May 2020 in beta testing to reward users for posting content. It utilized ERC-20 standard assets based on Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>To scale Community Points, the platform used the Arbitrum layer-two solution. Participants in subreddits received different tokens. For instance, in the r\/Cryptocurrency thread, these were MOONS, while in r\/FortniteBR, they were BRICKS.<\/p>\n<p>On October 17, 2023, Reddit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/CryptoCurrency\/comments\/17a33ql\/comment\/k5ahcpu\/?utm_source=reddit&#038;utm_medium=web2x&#038;context=3\">announced<\/a> the winding down of the program.
