{"id":11790,"date":"2024-03-20T13:01:48","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T11:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sp-global-ratings-evaluates-leading-stablecoins\/"},"modified":"2024-03-20T13:01:48","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T11:01:48","slug":"sp-global-ratings-evaluates-leading-stablecoins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sp-global-ratings-evaluates-leading-stablecoins\/","title":{"rendered":"S&#038;P Global Ratings Evaluates Leading Stablecoins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rating agency S&#038;P Global Ratings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/ratings\/en\/products-benefits\/products\/stablecoin-stability-assessment\">released<\/a> its ninth &#8220;stability assessment&#8221; of stablecoins USDC, USDT, DAI, FDUSD, FRAX, USDM, GUSD, USDP, and TUSD.<\/p>\n<p>In their analysis, the agency&#8217;s experts focused on the &#8220;quality of the assets backing the coin,&#8221; which was measured by depositary risks, as well as credit and market value.<\/p>\n<p>They also considered the degree of regulation, the issuer&#8217;s business model, transparency, liquidity, redemption capability, and the technologies used.<\/p>\n<p>S&#038;P Global Ratings identified five assessment levels:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Very strong.<\/li>\n<li>Strong.<\/li>\n<li>Adequate.<\/li>\n<li>Limited.<\/li>\n<li>Weak.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the current rating, none of the listed assets received the highest score.<\/p>\n<p>USDC, USDP, and GUSD were rated as &#8220;strong,&#8221; while only USDM from Mountain Protocol was deemed &#8220;adequate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stablecoins USDT, DAI, and FDUSD were described as &#8220;limited.&#8221; The most high-risk and lowest-rated were FRAX and TUSD.<\/p>\n<p>Mohamed Damak, Senior Director at S&#038;P Global Ratings, stated that four of the nine assessed stablecoins showed a decline in their ratings.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;This situation has arisen because there is no transparency or understanding of the risks inherent in various &#8216;stablecoins.&#8217; Although the market is concentrated, as the DeFi ecosystem grows, we anticipate an increase in the number of stablecoins and their use cases,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On March 5, the Binance-backed stablecoin FDUSD lost its peg to the US dollar, dropping momentarily to $0.92.<\/p>\n<p>In January, TUSD <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tusd-stablecoin-dips-to-0-97\">lost parity<\/a> with its base asset, with its price falling to $0.97.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rating agency S&#038;P Global Ratings released its ninth &#8220;stability assessment&#8221; of stablecoins USDC, USDT, DAI, FDUSD, FRAX, USDM, GUSD, USDP, and TUSD.
