They launched a website <span data-descr=\"pump the gas\" class=\"old_tooltip\">Pump The Gas<\/span> to promote the initiative.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nanexcool?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@nanexcool<\/a> and I are launching an effort to help raise the Ethereum gas limit from 30mn to 40mn<\/p>\n<p>This can result in a 15-33% reduction in L1 tx fees<\/p>\n<p>We are calling on solo stakers, client teams, pools and community members to help<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/pumpthegas?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#pumpthegas<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TYoyI35cle\">https:\/\/t.co\/TYoyI35cle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 eric.eth (@econoar) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/econoar\/status\/1770136717401419859?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The potential reduction in mainnet fees is estimated to be<a href=\"https:\/\/ethresear.ch\/t\/estimating-cryptocurrency-transaction-demand-elasticity-from-natural-experiments\/2330\"> 15\u201333%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cAfter discussions with several stakeholders, the increase seems reasonable without putting the network at risk,\u201d<\/em> the website states.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Conner and Conti have called on solo stakers, client development teams, pools, and community members to join the proposal&#8217;s implementation and offered specific recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative&#8217;s authors explained that EIP-4844 in Dencun significantly reduced fees in layer two solutions but did not affect the mainnet.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe combination of BLOBs and increasing the gas limit could help scale both L1 and L2 Ethereum,\u201d<\/em> the website notes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Conti highlighted a similar proposal from the liquid staking platform Rocket Pool team.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Rocket_Pool?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Rocket_Pool<\/a> validator proposed a block with 40m gas limit<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/pumpthegas?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#pumpthegas<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Mvb4qUrhMZ\">pic.twitter.com\/Mvb4qUrhMZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 mariano.eth | ?? It will just add bloat and possibly more burned ETH,\u201d<\/em> he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The gas limit represents the maximum computational power that can be spent on processing transactions or executing smart contracts in a single block. Currently, its allowable volume is <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/chart\/gaslimit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at 30 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-proposes-increasing-ethereum-gas-limit\">suggested<\/a> increasing the network&#8217;s gas limit to 40 million (+33%) to enhance throughput.
