Authorities in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pipc.go.kr\/np\/cop\/bbs\/selectBoardArticle.do?bbsId=BS074&#038;mCode=C020010000&#038;nttId=9963#LINK\">South Korea<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/worldcoin-faces-15-drop-amid-hong-kong-investigation\">Hong Kong<\/a> have also initiated investigations into the company.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;The Portuguese regulator cited a high risk of violating citizens&#8217; data protection rights, justifying urgent intervention to prevent serious harm. More than 300,000 citizens have provided their biometrics to Worldcoin,&#8221;<\/em> the document states.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Over the past month, the agency received dozens of complaints about unauthorized data collection from minors, insufficient disclosure of service information, and the inability to withdraw consent for data provision.<\/p>\n<p>Company representatives assured that Worldcoin &#8220;fully complies with all laws and regulations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The project&#8217;s main product, the World ID protocol, is based on zero-knowledge proofs. It is a tool that allows people to undergo identification using biometric data or a phone number.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the team <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/worldcoin-surges-40-to-reach-new-all-time-high\">announced reaching 1 million<\/a> daily active users in the World App.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The launch of Worldcoin has raised data protection concerns among regulators in many countries. Authorities in the UK, France, Germany, Argentina, and Kenya have shown interest in the project&#8217;s activities. On March 21, Kenyan authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessdailyafrica.com\/bd\/economy\/us-pushing-kenya-to-lift-worldcoin-suspension-4564196?view=htmlamp\">rejected<\/a> a request from the US government to lift the suspension of the project in their jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Worldcoin opened the source code of the main components of its orb software and introduced the Personal Custody privacy feature.<\/p>\n<p>Back in January, Worldcoin developers <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/worldcoins-orb-devices-to-adopt-apple-like-design\">announced<\/a> an upgrade of the orbs.
