[They] misled investors about the stability and security of crypto-assets and the so-called algorithmic stablecoin TerraUSD,\u201d said SEC <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> enforcement director Gurbir Grewal.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to him, the defendants caused enormous harm to investors, wiping out tens of billions \u201cvirtually overnight.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n<cite>\u201cWe are very disappointed with the verdict, which we believe is not supported by the evidence. We continue to assert that the SEC lacks the authority to bring this case, and we are carefully considering our options and next steps,\u201d a TFL representative told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2024\/04\/05\/new-york-jury-finds-do-kwon-terraform-labs-liable-for-fraud-in-sec-case\/\">CoinDesk<\/a>.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The trial lasted nine days and was held in absentia. The SEC charged TFL and Do Kwon with orchestrating a multibillion-dollar securities fraud in February 2023.<\/p>\n<p>On March 23, 2023, Montenegrin police arrested Kwon and former TFL CFO Han Chang-Joon as they attempted to fly from Podgorica airport to Dubai using fake passports. The latter was <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/former-tfl-cfo-extradited-to-south-korea\">extradited<\/a> to Korea in February 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In his home country, Kwon faces numerous charges, including violations of capital markets law. In the United States, his case is being handled by the Federal Prosecutor&#8217;s Office in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Back in March, it was reported that the TFL co-founder would be <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/montenegro-to-release-do-kwon-amid-extradition-deliberations\">released from prison<\/a> after serving his sentence for attempting to cross the border with forged documents.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Montenegro&#8217;s Supreme Court overturned Do Kwon&#8217;s extradition, as the decision on permission and the order of extradition in this case is made by the Minister of Justice.
