If there is even the slightest doubt, call the hotel, owners, and support service,&#8221; Wilking advised.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She added that Booking and other major companies use artificial intelligence to combat fraudsters, helping to prevent the spread of fakes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Rise of AI-Driven Phishing<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Security firm SlashNext <a href=\"https:\/\/slashnext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/SlashNext-The-State-of-Phishing-24-Midyear-Report.pdf\">reported<\/a> that the number of phishing attacks via email increased by 856% over the past year, and since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, by 4151%.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-us.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXf2i4HHfXjxxVoHr6iHdbYEQyyRMmRdQYMlkO-FRqePi-9TeC75ZAN02kA1fn_sPKCS-Ufa3_FMEKebXyDCKyofnRVPZUERM6RTUbpZvosn3laFOoCrYoayYqjL5pJ7YoazaPFlV6Gx_YqBKTjFhWOwfVnD?key=LpQxbtj1dmQcJjYSK3GpNw\" alt=\"AI-Driven Phishing Threatens Tourists\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Increase in phishing emails over time. You&#8217;ll see that they are written not only in English\u2014I can write in multiple languages and address many people around the world in just seconds,&#8221; stated SlashNext CEO Patrick Harr in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/236402\/ai-phishing-smishing-juice-jacking-scamming-travelers\">Decrypt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other Attack Methods<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Previously, the SlashNext team <a href=\"https:\/\/slashnext.com\/blog\/sms-gateways-allow-cybercriminals-to-flood-phones-with-sms-phishing-messages-for-just-e0-004-0-0044-each\/\">investigated<\/a> services available to cybercriminals and found that they can send hundreds of thousands of phishing SMS messages at a cost of $0.004 each.<\/p>\n<p>According to Harr, &#8220;<span data-descr=\"smishing \u2014 a form of phishing using text messages\" class=\"old_tooltip\">smishing<\/span>&#8221; is becoming an increasingly popular and dangerous method of attacking mobile phones.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Obviously, we&#8217;ve long moved to mobile communication, and people are used to using text messages, and bad actors always go where it&#8217;s convenient for you and try to interfere. We&#8217;ve seen changes in &#8216;smishing&#8217; in that it&#8217;s no longer just &#8216;click here because your gift package is already on the doorstep,'&#8221; he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, due to the popularization of QR codes during the COVID-19 pandemic, fraudsters are also using this technology to try to make potential victims pay for something, disclose confidential information, and passwords.<\/p>\n<p>Juice jacking is another dangerous attack vector targeting travelers.
