{"id":15176,"date":"2024-07-12T17:28:12","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T14:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/tornado-cash-developer-denied-bail\/"},"modified":"2024-07-12T17:28:12","modified_gmt":"2024-07-12T14:28:12","slug":"tornado-cash-developer-denied-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/tornado-cash-developer-denied-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"Tornado Cash Developer Denied Bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixer developer Alexey Pertsev will remain in prison pending an appeal of his conviction in a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tornado-cash-developer-sentenced-to-64-months-for-money-laundering\">$1.2 billion money laundering case<\/a>, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dlnews.com\/articles\/regulation\/dutch-court-rejects-bail-for-tornado-cash-dev-alexey-pertsev\/\">DLNews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This decision was made by the Court of Appeal in &#8216;s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Pertsev&#8217;s lawyers argued that there was no flight risk and that he needed internet access to prepare for the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>On May 14, a Dutch court found Pertsev guilty of laundering $1.2 billion through the mixer and sentenced him to 64 months in prison. Since then, the developer has been in custody.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2022, the <span data-descr=\"Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OFAC<\/span> blacklisted Tornado Cash for its involvement in laundering over $7 billion in illicit funds. Pertsev was arrested that same month. In April 2023, the court changed his pre-trial measure to house arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founders of Tornado Cash, Roman Storm and Roman Semenov, also face charges of money laundering and sanctions violations in the US.<\/p>\n<p>The former was released on bail and refused to plead guilty. Storm is awaiting trial in September.
