{"id":15256,"date":"2024-07-16T17:40:42","date_gmt":"2024-07-16T14:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/craig-wright-faces-potential-criminal-charges-in-the-uk\/"},"modified":"2024-07-16T17:40:42","modified_gmt":"2024-07-16T14:40:42","slug":"craig-wright-faces-potential-criminal-charges-in-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/craig-wright-faces-potential-criminal-charges-in-the-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Craig Wright Faces Potential Criminal Charges in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Court documents concerning the &#8220;pseudo-Satoshi&#8221; Craig Wright have been <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1JE11zAFGa730F3slFxrK4DkyCNS_22Ha\/view?pli=1\">submitted<\/a> to the UK prosecution for consideration of charges of perjury and forgery.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;I have no doubt that I should submit the relevant documents in this case to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider whether to initiate prosecution against Dr. Wright for his extensive perjury and document forgery. Whether a warrant should be issued for his arrest and extradition sought from where he is currently located,&#8221; the judge stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) initiated proceedings against Wright in 2021. The organisation filed a lawsuit against the Australian businessman to prevent him from litigating against developers and other members of the crypto community, as well as claiming intellectual property rights over Bitcoin technology.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2024, Judge James Mellor <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-rules-craig-wright-is-not-bitcoins-creator\">ruled<\/a> that Wright, contrary to his claims, is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the author of the Bitcoin white paper or the creator of the first cryptocurrency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two other cases involving the &#8220;pseudo-Satoshi&#8221;\u2014against Coinbase and Jack Dorsey&#8217;s Block\u2014were also suspended.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the court <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-freezes-craig-wrights-assets-worth-7-6-million\">froze Wright&#8217;s assets<\/a> amounting to \u00a36 million (approximately $7.58 million) to cover costs. The decision was made following the businessman&#8217;s transfer of funds out of the UK after an unfavourable verdict.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Judge Mellor <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/craig-wright-accused-of-perjury-by-court\">issued a written ruling<\/a> accusing Wright of perjury, document forgery, and &#8220;using the courts as a means of fraud.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At that time, the judge did not rule out referring the matter to the prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2020, Wright himself withdrew a defamation lawsuit against <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.news\/krejg-rajt-otkazalsya-ot-iska-k-adamu-beku-i-oplatil-ego-izderzhki\/\">Blockstream CEO Adam Back<\/a> and covered his costs.
