{"id":17901,"date":"2024-10-19T10:55:54","date_gmt":"2024-10-19T07:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-approves-trading-of-options-on-spot-bitcoin-etfs-on-nyse-and-cboe\/"},"modified":"2024-10-19T10:55:54","modified_gmt":"2024-10-19T07:55:54","slug":"sec-approves-trading-of-options-on-spot-bitcoin-etfs-on-nyse-and-cboe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-approves-trading-of-options-on-spot-bitcoin-etfs-on-nyse-and-cboe\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC Approves Trading of Options on Spot Bitcoin ETFs on NYSE and CBOE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sanctioned the trading of options on exchange-traded funds based on the spot price of the leading cryptocurrency on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/nyseamer\/2024\/34-101386.pdf\"><span data-descr=\"New York Stock Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">NYSE<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/cboe\/2024\/34-101387.pdf\"><span data-descr=\"Chicago Board Options Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CBOE<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The products in question include Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, ARK21Shares Bitcoin ETF, Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF, Franklin Bitcoin ETF, VanEck Bitcoin Trust, WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust BTC, Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust, Bitwise Bitcoin ETF, iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, and Valkyrie Bitcoin Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas described the regulator&#8217;s decision as &#8220;not a big surprise, but still good news.&#8221; In September, the SEC approved the trading of options on spot Bitcoin ETFs on Nasdaq.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">They approved same thing for Nasdaq recently so not a big surprise but still good news as SEC was big hurdle. We have heard good news about the rest of the process, but the exact listing date remains unclear,&#8221; he wrote.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In August, Balchunas and his colleague James Seyffart <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bloomberg-predicts-launch-of-btc-etf-options-in-q4\">predicted<\/a> the launch of options on exchange-traded funds based on the leading cryptocurrency in the fourth quarter of 2024. They noted at the time that after the SEC&#8217;s approval, several more steps would be required from the <span data-descr=\"Options Clearing Corporation\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OCC<\/span> and the <span data-descr=\"U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CFTC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Back in January, the SEC <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-approves-all-11-spot-bitcoin-etf-applications\">approved<\/a> all 11 applications for spot Bitcoin ETFs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the end of September, the regulator postponed its decision on options for Ethereum ETFs.
