At the time of writing, the assets are valued at $23.75 billion. Businesses are required to accept cryptocurrency as payment if they have the technical capability.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the country&#8217;s president, Nayib Bukele, announced <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvadors-unrealized-bitcoin-gains-reach-41-million\">purchases of digital gold<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-mines-nearly-474-btc-in-three-years\">mining<\/a>, and other bitcoin initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The state employs a DCA strategy, acquiring 1 BTC each day.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bitcoin Sellers in &#8220;Paper Loss&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>The German government lost $1.6 billion in potential profit by <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/german-authorities-liquidate-5627-btc\">selling<\/a> 50,000 BTC for $2.88 billion in the summer of 2024. The average price of the coins sold was $57,600.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Bundestag member Joana Cotar <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/german-bundestag-criticizes-governments-bitcoin-sale\">criticized<\/a> the sales of bitcoin confiscated by authorities, calling these actions counterproductive.<\/p>\n<p>The German government is not the record holder for missed profits. The US government, through 11 auctions, sold 195,091 BTC for $366.5 million, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/jlopp.github.io\/us-marshals-bitcoin-auctions\/\">tracker<\/a> data.
