At the time of writing, it is trading at $16.54, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/ru\/%D0%9A%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BF%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8E%D1%82%D1%8B\/tornado-cash\">CoinGecko<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-qw.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXcqPSx8IJZccrYKbM-lrVeqLh8do_e59ixnoR2kvdTpiBvKf7vlsNuoD_YkGapXyuDoSqCCvc3LkE2RytPtXLttpB2mfoN2sVK2dRAJ2TXkb8En8wb_fxrTr712YQf4FuZP7Hsi?key=xOwFU-tNPz1jeeAuN6f4dn3D\" alt=\"US Court Deems Sanctions Against Tornado Cash Unlawful\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Daily TORN price chart. They argued that the sanctions were excessive, as Tornado Cash is not a person or entity, but software.<\/p>\n<p>However, in August 2023, a district court sided with OFAC, ruling that the DAO managing the mixer is a real legal entity, structurally akin to a corporation. Additionally, it \u201cbenefits\u201d from the service\u2019s smart contracts, making it an accountable organization. <\/p>\n<p>The recent ruling noted that even with sanctions, Tornado Cash remains accessible \u201cto anyone with an internet connection.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Senior Counsel at ConsenSys, Bill Hughes, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BillHughesDC\/status\/1861545321450336342\">called<\/a> the decision \u201ca good win that the Supreme Court is unlikely to overturn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase, which supported the lawsuit against the Treasury, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iampaulgrewal\/status\/1861549058797772874\">stated<\/a> the event is of historic significance \u201cfor cryptocurrency and everyone who cares about protecting freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August 2022, OFAC imposed sanctions on Tornado Cash, prohibiting US individuals and companies from engaging in financial transactions with it. The agency also linked the mixer to North Korea\u2019s nuclear weapons program. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, a court extended the pre-trial detention of Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev. In May, a Dutch court found him guilty of laundering $1.2 billion through the mixer and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tornado-cash-developer-sentenced-to-64-months-for-money-laundering\">sentenced<\/a> him to 64 months in prison.
