This protects against <span data-descr=\"an attacker contests the confirmation of the network state by opening many challenges and delaying block production\" class=\"old_tooltip\">delay attacks<\/span> that can disrupt the network.<\/p>\n<p>The protocol removes the need for a permissioned validator set and ensures any \u201chonest party\u201d can prevail over attackers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Currently, Arbitrum chains rely on a permissioned set of validators to prevent delay attacks.<\/p>\n<p>With BoLD enforcing a fixed time limit on dispute resolution, delay risks are mitigated, making permissionless validation possible. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8AsWUC9xS7\">pic.twitter.com\/8AsWUC9xS7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Arbitrum Governance (@arbitrumdao_gov) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arbitrumdao_gov\/status\/1877493455607238853?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Developers added that activating BoLD would also strengthen censorship resistance for L3 networks built on the Orbit stack.<\/p>\n<p>Voting ends on January 24.
