{"id":20323,"date":"2025-01-14T18:40:43","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T16:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/open-interest-in-options-on-blackrocks-ibit-nears-half-of-deribits\/"},"modified":"2025-01-14T18:40:43","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T16:40:43","slug":"open-interest-in-options-on-blackrocks-ibit-nears-half-of-deribits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/open-interest-in-options-on-blackrocks-ibit-nears-half-of-deribits\/","title":{"rendered":"Open interest in options on BlackRock\u2019s IBIT nears half of Deribit\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two months after the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/nasdaq-to-list-options-on-blackrocks-spot-bitcoin-etf\">start of trading<\/a>, open interest in options on BlackRock\u2019s bitcoin ETF has risen to nearly 50% of the total on leading platform Deribit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/01\/14\/options-tied-to-black-rocks-bitcoin-etf-surge-to-nearly-50-of-deribits-btc-open-interest-in-two-months\">CoinDesk<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>As of January 13, the figures stood at $11bn and $23bn, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/nasdaq-to-list-options-on-blackrocks-spot-bitcoin-etf\">launch<\/a> of IBIT options has given U.S. institutional investors a regulated product, unlike offshore Deribit.<\/p>\n<p>The new instrument has also attracted U.S. retail traders, according to Volmex Finance.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts say the popularity of IBIT options could undermine Deribit\u2019s dominance.<\/p>\n<p>The platform\u2019s CEO, Luuk Strijers, noted the product\u2019s positive effect on the industry.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Options on IBIT are traded predominantly by U.S. retail investors<\/em> \u2014<em> a segment that historically did not have access to Deribit. The instrument has not had a negative impact on activity on our platform. Moreover, it has opened new opportunities for arbitrage,&#8221;<\/em> he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In November, <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-postpones-decision-on-spot-ethereum-etf-options-again\">postponed<\/a> a decision on a <span data-descr=\"New York Stock Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">NYSE<\/span> proposal to list options on spot Ethereum ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>A month earlier, the regulator <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-approves-trading-of-options-on-spot-bitcoin-etfs-on-nyse-and-cboe\">approved<\/a> trading in IBIT options on the NYSE and <span data-descr=\"Chicago Board Options Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CBOE<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two months after the start of trading, open interest in options on BlackRock\u2019s bitcoin ETF has risen to nearly 50% of the total on leading platform Deribit, CoinDesk reported.
