{"id":21141,"date":"2025-02-13T17:18:51","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T15:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/ethereum-foundation-allocates-120-million-to-defi-protocols\/"},"modified":"2025-02-13T17:18:51","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T15:18:51","slug":"ethereum-foundation-allocates-120-million-to-defi-protocols","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/ethereum-foundation-allocates-120-million-to-defi-protocols\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum Foundation Allocates $120 Million to DeFi Protocols"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The non-profit Ethereum Foundation (EF) has allocated $120 million worth of ETH to several lending protocols to enhance reserve yields.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">EF Treasury has deployed:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 10,000 ETH into Spark<br \/>\u2014 10,000 ETH into Aave Prime<br \/>\u2014 20,800 ETH into Aave Core<br \/>\u2014 4,200 ETH into Compound<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re grateful for the entire Ethereum security community that has worked diligently to make Ethereum DeFi secure and usable!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ethereum Foundation (@ethereumfndn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ethereumfndn\/status\/1889978208986280031?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 13, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/340582\/ethereum-foundation-injects-nearly-120-million-worth-of-ether-into-defi-lending-protocols\">The Block<\/a>, the organization could earn approximately $1.5 million over the year, based on a 1.5% rate.<\/p>\n<p>EF transferred:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>30,800 ETH ($81.6 million) to Aave;<\/li>\n<li>10,000 ETH ($26 million) to Spark;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>4,200 ETH ($11.2 million) to Compound.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From the 30,800 ETH, the organization allocated:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20,800 coins to Aave&#8217;s main market;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>10,000 to Aave Prime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In November 2024, the organization reported treasury reserves <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-foundation-discloses-970-million-in-treasury-reserves\">of approximately $970 million<\/a>. This coincided with an estimate by Justin Drake, which he <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-foundations-financial-cushion-evaluated-by-expert\">provided in September<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At that time, the researcher noted that EF had enough funds for about 10 years of operation, based on annual expenses of $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation has been <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-defends-ethereum-foundations-cryptocurrency-sales\">criticized<\/a> for periodically selling cryptocurrency from its reserves, which exerted pressure on the market price of ether.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Concerns were also raised about the transparency of EF&#8217;s financial activities, with suggestions to use staking to cover expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, discussions about the organization&#8217;s operations have intensified. A community member with the nickname fishbiscuit <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/not_qz\/status\/1881300604313842106\">described<\/a> it as &#8220;a week of scapegoating EF CEO Aya Miyaguchi due to dissatisfaction with everything and everyone in Ethereum.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-announces-major-leadership-changes-at-the-ethereum-foundation\">announced<\/a> &#8220;significant changes&#8221; in the foundation&#8217;s leadership. He also outlined the structure&#8217;s goals, which largely addressed the raised concerns.<\/p>\n<p>ConsenSys founder and CEO Joseph Lubin proposed replacing Miyaguchi with two co-directors \u2014 Ethereum France President J\u00e9r\u00f4me de Tychey and former researcher Danny Ryan.<\/p>\n<p>In January, EF <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-foundation-allocates-50000-eth-for-defi-participation\">opened<\/a> a multi-signature wallet on the Safe platform to participate in the DeFi ecosystem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The non-profit Ethereum Foundation (EF) has allocated $120 million worth of ETH to several lending protocols to enhance reserve yields.
