In May 2024, he <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0x424872acdc3f28523b444a3e855f94fb82c9c45aff2888eb57bae04a230962c8\">donated<\/a> 30 ETH (~$111,000) to the legal defense fund for Pertsev and the service&#8217;s co-founder Roman Storm.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters are also invited to <a href=\"https:\/\/juicebox.money\/v2\/p\/713\">contribute<\/a> to the fundraising on the decentralized platform Juicebox.<\/p>\n<p>Pertsev thanked the organization for the funds raised.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Great news! Let\u2019s do this together!\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In May 2024, a Dutch court <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tornado-cash-developer-sentenced-to-64-months-for-money-laundering\">found<\/a> Pertsev guilty of laundering $1.2 billion through the mixer and sentenced him to 64 months in prison. On February 7, 2025, his pre-trial detention was suspended, and the developer <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tornado-cash-developer-alexey-pertsev-to-be-released-on-february-7\">was released<\/a>, albeit with mandatory electronic location monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>Charges of money laundering and sanctions violations in the U.S. have also been brought against Tornado Cash co-founders Roman Storm and Roman Semenov.<\/p>\n<p>In January, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-overturns-sanctions-against-tornado-cash-mixer\">overturned<\/a> sanctions imposed by the <span data-descr=\"Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury Department\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OFAC<\/span> in 2022 against the mixer, sending the case back for further proceedings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ethereum Foundation has contributed $1.25 million to support the legal defense of Alexey Pertsev, a developer of the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash.
