{"id":21652,"date":"2025-03-01T10:03:42","date_gmt":"2025-03-01T08:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/cme-to-launch-solana-futures\/"},"modified":"2025-03-01T10:03:42","modified_gmt":"2025-03-01T08:03:42","slug":"cme-to-launch-solana-futures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/cme-to-launch-solana-futures\/","title":{"rendered":"CME to Launch Solana Futures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The largest regulated derivatives exchange, CME Group, plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/cme-group-to-launch-solana-sol-futures-on-march-17-302388476.html#:~:text=CHICAGO%2C%20Feb.%2028%2C%202025,sized%20contract%20(500%20SOL).\">launch<\/a> Solana-based futures on March 17, pending regulatory approval.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The new instruments will be available in two formats:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>micro contracts \u2014 based on 25 SOL;<\/li>\n<li>larger contracts \u2014 for 500 SOL.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n<cite>\u201cThe launch of SOL futures is a response to growing demand from clients seeking to hedge risks with regulated instruments,\u201d noted Giovanni Vicioso, head of cryptocurrency products at CME Group.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to him, Solana continues to strengthen its position as a popular platform among developers and investors, and such derivatives will become a capital-efficient tool for risk management.<\/p>\n<p>Some market experts have expressed the view that the upcoming launch of new instruments is a precursor to an ETF.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n<cite>\u201cCME&#8217;s decision to add SOL contracts significantly increases the likelihood that corresponding spot exchange-traded funds will receive approval in the foreseeable future,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/343980\/cme-group-solana-futures-march-17\" title=\"noted\">noted<\/a> Sui Chung, head of CF Benchmarks.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He stated that the <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> traditionally considers the presence of a regulated futures market as a key condition for approving spot ETFs. This allows for the identification of potential market manipulators and reduces risks for investors. However, before making a final decision, the regulator is likely to want to observe trading activity on CME for several months.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing, SOL is trading around $143.
